Mental Health First Aid for Supervisors and Spiritual Directors – Face to Face is an accredited, in-person training experience specifically designed for professionals in supervision and spiritual direction. Facilitated by Marcel Koper—Mental Health Professional and experienced supervisor—and auspiced by Mental Health First Aid Australia, this training equips participants with critical skills for early intervention in mental health issues.
As a supervisor, it's inevitable that you’ll encounter supervisees who may:
Be undiagnosed but showing signs of mental illness
Be deteriorating in mental wellbeing
Be experiencing a worsening of an existing condition
Be in crisis, such as suicidal ideation or severe distress
This training is not about diagnosing, but rather understanding the signs, symptoms, and boundaries of your role as a supervisor. You’ll gain confidence in knowing when and how to refer people, and how to support supervisees who may need to intervene themselves.
Topics Covered Include:
Mood disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder)
Anxiety in its various forms
Psychotic disorders
Substance use disorders
Crisis management (suicidality, panic attacks, psychotic episodes, intoxication-related aggression)
Learning and applying the ALGEE conversation model
Additional Details:
Delivered face to face over two full days at a peaceful venue in Ashburton
Based on the latest evidence-informed practices
Certification is valid for 3 years
Professional Development: 6 hours PD per day
Maximum 20 participants (minimum 10 required to proceed)
Please note: This training does not cover Personality Disorders
