Mental Health First Aid for Supervisors and Spiritual Directors is an accredited online training tailored for professionals in supervision and spiritual direction. It is facilitated by Marcel Koper—a Mental Health Professional and qualified supervisor—and auspiced by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
Participants will develop essential skills to:
Recognise signs and symptoms of mental illness
Understand their role boundaries in supporting supervisees
Know when and how to refer individuals experiencing mental health concerns
Manage crisis situations such as suicidality, panic attacks, psychotic episodes, and intoxication-related aggression
Topics Covered Include:
Mood disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder)
Various forms of anxiety
Psychotic disorders
Substance use disorders
Mental health crises
Application of the ALGEE intervention model
Additional Details:
Self-paced online modules (approx. 2–4 hours)
Two live Zoom sessions are compulsory for accreditation
Maximum of 12 participants (minimum of 8 required to proceed)
Provides 10 hours of professional development (PD)

About the Event
Meet the Facilitator
Marcel has been a Mental Health professional/ therapist and supervisor for over 25 years and specialises in providing supervision for mental health professionals (Psychologists, therapists, supervisors, nurses, music therapists) and those in ministry settings of all types (ministers, priests, leaders, chaplains, pastoral carers, youth leaders and more) as well as other leaders, lawyers and school principals. He believes that if he is providing support for the one person, then he is supporting the hundreds that they are ministering/ offering care to directly or indirectly.
